I’ve collected various YouTube videos about the Vietnam War for the last few years and decided to pull the best 40+ and share them with you. Some authors created slide shows with pictures set to music of the period, others used actual video footage and a couple published documentaries.

I participate in High School oral history concerning my experiences as a combat soldier in VietNam.
Watching video 1 “Vietnam simplified” I feel gives a good overview to those who should have at least a basic understanding historically of The Who, What, and Why of the era and the war. My thoughts as far as of anything that could have been added would center on the subtle consequences, the aftermath of the war. How American society changed.

Three more You Tube Vietnam videos that you might enjoy: “The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation Veterans Day 2013;” “Inside the Reagan Library–the Heroes” Gallery,” and “Images of Bravery.” All three feature stories about me and my squad leader, Dennis Haines. –Tom Reilly

Thanks for briging all of these under one listing. Have watched many Vietnam Videos or movies in 53 years. Something about why watch someone else’s view of the war I lived and died in, particularly when many of the producers were never near the war. Have watched In the Shadow of the Blade by Arrowhead Films in Austin. Was talking with about producing a documentary of the 12th Cavalry in VIetnam 1965-`972. We could not get together on the project. Found someone in Branson, MO who is now working with us to produce a 6 Episode Documentary, told by the Grunts-PFcs, E4, E5s, the field men who were in it. Based on general feedback from some, it is a good production thus far. Different from most VN Documentaries. We are now about 50% finished with the second segment. It is titled “Boot to Boot”, story of the 1st Battalion-12th Cavalry (Airborne/Airmobile) and 2d Battalion-12th Cavalry. Naturally, I would have to say my favorite video then, is the one currently in production. As far as VN Movies, have only watched 3-We Were Soldiers, Platoon, and Forrest Gump.
My thinking being-do not want to overload my own mempry reservoir because will someday write a book or do a documentary and want it to be authentic from our/my own experiences. We shall see how it turns out.

Did however, catch the 3 Part Series of Vietnam in HD about a month ago and thought it was excellent. Ken Burns big hoopla left a lot to be desired.

Thank you for the videos. Many well known and viewed multiple times. Of course there are also ones I have not viewed(Airborne in A Shau e.g.).
