Great tribute. I remember two guys who were door gunners in Vietnam before winding up in 1/8 Inf when I got there in ’74. Sgt Hall and Spc Duff. God Keep ’em. Hope they are having a great life wherever they may be now.

Thanks, JP! Many of us don’t realize how hard war is. It plays on the mind and many soldiers return wounded and their emotional worlds are bits and pieces of what they were before going to war because of what they have gone through.

Loved the tribute “Man in the door”
I was door gunner from 84 – 92 then served as mechanic/ technician on UH-1, OH-58, CH-47 and UH-60 until retirement in 2021
I miss the Huey tremendously.

Loved this tribute, married to a crew chief, very proud of him. He is a great guy and I was so lucky to get him home .

Very good summary in my opinion of what the door gunners meant to the grunts on the ground who depended on the choppers for their very survival. Reminds me of the book American Boys.
