The annual Memorial Day ceremony is co-hosted yearly by VVMF and the National Park Service to pay tribute to members of America’s armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam and in all conflicts. The keynote speakers were easy to listen to, and they captivated me during the hour-long event. If you didn’t get a chance to watch or visit, you can watch the ceremony here.

I suppose it started in WWI, towns and cities would put up the names of those KIA on memorial plaques. And it was after WWII when it got bigger. But the national scale of this wall shows how it brings people together, all formed from loss. Necessary losses for the country’s policy. Vietnam, not necessary? Maybe, but inevitable. Fox Nation has Bret Baier doing a series on Vietnam. For me, it fits into things I think about the war. And the National Wall fulfills an endpoint role of sorts, a tragic one, but then again…Tragedy is History.
